The weather last winter caused a lot of problems for everyone. First there was a long period of fine but cold weather, which meant that the roads were very wet. Then if got warmer, but we had a lot of rain. Two weeks later the weather turned cold again : an east wind started to blow, and we had a lot of snow. Roads became blocked, trains stopped running, so that many people either stayed at home.
Although I have a car, I prefer to travel by train, especially if it gets a long journey. As the train travels at speed through the countryside, I can relax, drink a coffee, read a book, or just gaze out of the window. Sometimes the movement of the train keeps me asleep, something you couldn't do while driving a car. On the other hand that I hate waiting on cold stations, and I get angry when I have to waste time looking for a taxi or a bus at the beginning or end of my journey.
